If anyone had suggested to the Deccan Chargers or the Bangalore Royal Challengers that they would be involved in a tie to decide a semi-final spot on the last day of the league stage they would have gladly agreed. The two teams went through a horrendous run in 2008 but picked the pieces well here to remain in contention.

The paths taken have been different. Chargers blasted from the blocks, had a momentary slip only to get on track again. Bangalore on the other hand have recovered from a poor start to be where they are today. The one factor that is a common thread to both is their inspiring leader lifting them. Anil Kumble and Adam Gilchrist have been simply outstanding.

Looking back Chargers would know how close they were to securing their place in the next round. As many as five four matches have been lost in the final over. “Without doubt it has been the poor decisions that came at the wrong time that has cost us. We would have been naturally happy to have got through. What it means is we have another important match to play and I am sure all the hard work we have put in over a period of time will show tomorrow,” said Chargers coach Darren Lehmann.

Chargers could burn some midnight oil in finalising their XI for the crunch game. Lehmann confirmed that Ravi Teja will miss the match. The Youngster will be out of action for 40 days after tearing a hamstring during the match against Kings XI. “We will have to sit on that. Azhar Bilhakia or V.V.S. Laxman will come in place of Ravi,” said Lehmann.

The wicket here promises runs. The surface looks hard and with a fair covering of grass. The batsmen should enjoy the ball coming on nicely to the bat. Ryan Harris has done his cause no harm but the experience of Chaminda Vaas cannot be discounted. The form of Herschelle Gibbs and his approach in the last match has left a lot to be desired and his place could be taken by an all-rounder.

The Royal Challengers are peaking at the right moment while Chargers have not had things going to plan. There are areas Chargers will have to pay attention quickly. The back up seamer Harmeet Singh has proved to be easy fodder while Jaskiran Singh who made his debut in the last match did not get to bowl. To be up against an improving side is not going to be easy for the Chargers with a limited attack.

“It is going to be a very tough game. They have played some good cricket of late and we are aware of it. But there is no time to worry on whom we are playing against at this stage of the tournament. We will continue to do what we can to the best our abilities,” said Lehmann.

In a virtual knockout game, setting a target has proved to be a better proposition, as pressure can play a part during a stiff chase. The stage is set for a cracking contest between two sides that are well balanced. Bangalore will start with their nose in front but not by much. It will all boil down to who enjoys a better start. There is no threat of rain. And with a true wicket to boot the setting is perfect to provide the perfect end to the league stage that has provided some exciting cricket.

P Vijaya kumar who performed well in the last year not played a single match in this season.he can bowl in the range 120-135km/hr. And in our team except RP & Haris everyone is a slow bolwer.

Vijay Duvvuri

We should already be in the finals now after the Punjab vs csk game..But we should play as though it is the finals against RC. They have the momentum .. we have the talent.. We need to win to get the momentum

Congrats Deccan Chargers after today’s results Semis berth is almost confirmed unless something unexpected happens which will reduce our NRR drastically.
Get Laxman in the team very experienced campaigner he will definitely add strength to the team & he can rotate the strike against any bowler also very handy fielder in slips.
If Vijay is available he deserves a chance by his talent which he already proved in last season.
I hope IPL 2 will be ours. All the best for rest of IPL 2
