Trevor Penney

Fielding Coach
Wednesday June 12, 1968

A Warwickshire stalwart for 17 years, Trevor Penney retired from first-class cricket at the end of the 2005 season to take up a post as Sri Lanka's assistant coach, where he teamed up with his former county team-mate, Tom Moody. Originally from Zimbabwe, Penney joined the county in 1988 whereupon he embarked on a four-year residential qualification. The time on the sidelines paid off in the early 1990s, when he was an integral member of the most successful Warwickshire team of all time, including the side that won a unique treble in 1994. In all, he played in seven one-day finals, the last coming against Hampshire at the end of 2005. Like his fellow Southern African, Jonty Rhodes, Penney was perhaps best known for his outstanding fielding which, even at the age of 37, remained good enough to earn him a role as one of England's substitute fielders in the 2005 Ashes campaign. He had been appointed as England's fielding coach for that series, and he soon after joined Tom Moody's coaching team in Sri Lanka, taking interim charge when Moody stepped down in May 2007.

Hey Penney, I am from Hyderabad. I've been a big fan of our team.. Its nice to see you & Lehman working hard with our boys, I thank you for all your efforts. I regret the losses we had earlier in the tournament. But, Its so unfortunate that we lost most (in fact all )of our matches for dropping catches and conceding ones- to- two's and two's-to-threes or boundaries. This is such a thing that, no one - as a player - or as a supporter wanted to have a barrier to a win. Socially speaking as a Hyderabadi its so embarrassing when i go into argument on the games with my friends of other states, Specially when DC looses. According to you what is the main reason for this ? Did you not given enough time to read the boys and train them accordingly ? or are boys not just enough to work hard with you ? Whatsoever the reason may it be, Its a game someone has to be at a loosing side, we are not bothered for being their. But, the most daunting thing is the reason behind a loss. Just because the reason being the basic of the game. However, I personally believe we are very good side with good young talent and am confident we will see ourselves in the final, if we can overcome this small things. All My wishes with you and the team All The Best. Zaffar.
