Bulls overcome battling Devils
Pressure-cooker situations get the best out of the Deccan ChargersIt was the case at the Kotla on Sunday as well, with defending champions booking the last available semifinals berth following an 11-run win over the Delhi Daredevils in their last league match of IPL-3 here.
After Chennai Super Kings secured their passage with a come-from-behind victory over Kings XI Punjab at Dharamsala earlier in the day, the game was a virtual fight to the finish for the two teams. The Daredevils held a slight edge midway into the game, restricting Adam Gilchrist’s men to a less-than-ideal 145/7 in 20 overs, and then rode on a rearguard action from Paul Collingwood (52 not out, 42b) and Ashish Nehra (21 not out, 16b) in the chase to keep themselves in the hunt until the final two overs.
Needing 27 off the last 12 balls, Harmeet Singh was smashed over the mid-wicket fence by Collingwood, but gave just four runs in the rest of the over to bring the equation down to 17 required off the final six balls. Chaminda Vaas (1/19) in his comeback game for the Chargers kept it full and straight, and gave just five to give the side the second spot in the IPL points table.
The win rounded off what had been a testing run to the knockout stage for the Hyderabad side.
The Chargers were on the brink of elimination, languishing in the bottom two of the table after suffering five consecutive losses a fortnight ago.
From there on to Sunday, though, they won five on the trot to get back in the reckoning. They now face Chennai Super Kings in the semis on Thursday.
Meanwhile, it was a disappointing end to Delhi’s campaign, with inconsistent batting proving to be their undoing. The top order failed again with the side losing seven wickets for 68 runs.
Earlier, the Chargers ended up with a below-par total with none of the batsman managing to convert their starts. Andrew Symonds (54, 30b), with an open-shouldered assault replete with three fours and five sixes, was the only saving grace as the Bulls suffered yet another top-order collapse.

I thnk being under pressure brings out the best from Chargers
...... This is terrific comeback from the Chargers where they were placed in the 7th position of the table and most of us including me have written of their semi final chances. Coming back from the bottom to reach the Semi Finals winning 5 consecutive games is a remarkable effort from the Chargers.
The domestic talent has finally started bearing fruits and Gilly not performing with the bat is not putting them under pressure which is good for the team not to depend on one person and rather giving a good team performance.
They have truly showed why they are the DEFENDING CHAMPIONS !!!!!
All the very best for the Semi Finals.....You guys are Rocking.....Have a great time before the big matches ....CONGRATULATIONS Chargers !!!!!!!!111
