Chargers Lose by Twelve Runs

Deccan Chargers will meet Delhi Daredevils in the first semi-final on Friday at the Centurion while Chennai Super Kings will play Bangalore in the second semi-final at Johannesburg on Saturday. Bangalore beat the Chargers by 12 runs in the last league match to take their tally to 16 points and end third on the table. Chargers and Kings XI finished with 14 points each but Chargers advanced on superior net run rate.

The stage was set for Chargers to sharpen their batting skills. The interest revolved more around Bangalore. They had to ensure Chargers do not reach the target in less than 11.2 overs. Even with a power packed top-order that looked a tough draw. For once Adam Gilchrist took back seat as Herschelle Gibbs took the opportunity to silence his critics. Anil Kumble opening the attack to Gilchrist paved way for a high quality contest. Two of the most committed cricketers of this generation against each other. Kumble won round one with an economical over but there was Gibbs to contend with.

A clean pick over square leg and an arrogant pull off Praveen Kumar set the Gibbs machine rolling. Two more sixes off van der Merwe took Gibbs to a 50 off 32 balls. Gibbs enjoyed a reprieve when Robin Uthappa dropped him on 48 but it did not prove costly. The fall of Gibbs and Symonds helped Bangalore tighten the screws. The last three overs required 40 and even the spark of Rohit was not enough.

Earlier with too many mathematical probabilities to comprehend with, planning an innings was not the easiest task for Bangalore. They took the tried and trusted route of slamming the ball around the park to put steer clear of Kings XI. In broad shouldered Manish Pandey, Bangalore found a man for the hour as he struck a stroke filled hundred, the first by an Indian in the IPL. Batting with a strong bottom hand and riding a wave of luck, Manish swung through the line without any second thoughts and laid the bowlers low.

The timing was sweet and there was not a single occasion where Manish held his shot back. It was well what the doctor ordered. The plan was perfect keeping the situation in mind. The job for Manish was made tough with an early wicket falling. Following a tight over from Ryan Harris, R.P. Singh struck in the second over when he curled one into the pads of Jacques Kallis who flicked it straight to square leg.

Bangalore enjoyed a reprieve when R.P. Singh missed a sitter offered by van der Merwe at third man. The lapse hurt Chargers badly as the right-hander picked 18 runs off the next six deliveries. It was also the stage where Manish grew in confidence. Picking the length effortlessly he favoured the area over mid-wicket and square point. Manish was guilty of slowing down a bit when he was within touching distance of a century. But that was understandable from a youngster who went through a horrendous run with the Mumbai Indians last year.

Chargers, courtesy two well directed overs from Symonds kept the score down to 64 in the first half. But there was no answer to the onslaught from Manish after the break. Pragyan Ojha struck twice to peg Bangalore back a bit but Manish and Uthappa did enough damage in the last over from R.P. Singh to take the score to 170.

Congrats to DC & Gilly & Team, Gilly blew away all criticism of whole DC fans for choosing fielding despite of 3 losts in 5 games and one narrow win due to Rohit's heroics and entered into semis, due to his batting prowess we won comfortably. Luck also favors him & DC, all his shots are clean. When Gilly is playing surely all Deccan's fans hearts are beating heavily, because once he's out, nobody is there to speedup innings. So always chasing a modest total is a big daunting task for DC, but this time Gilly proved, fans predictions are wrong. Hats off. Eventhough due to Rohit's heroic's DC won that crucial game against KKR in last over, last ball, and DC entered into Semi's with narrow Net run rate, but this semi-final credit goes to Gilly, who played single handedly and won against Delhi Dare Devils. Always Gilly's good at Worldcup finals, so i hope we;ll see same perf. on Sunday Final. Keep it up.

Gilly Toss won at 2:30GMT in Semi-final, he selected field first. Howmany times i criticised his ego of choosing field first and howmany times he lost with this voltile, unstable batting line up. Let's see whether Gilly will impress with his selection or not.
For records for last five matches DC won 1, lost 2, and fifth won DC won due to Rohit heroics (thats hopeless match, some how they won), so almost 4 losses by selecting field first, so how can keep selecting fielding and loosing matches? do you have any clue? Lets hope our predictions may wrong, and DC will win in this crucial semi-final. If DC lost, it's only because Gilly captaincy for his egoistic captaincy decisions, if they won, Gilly almost taken a suicidal heroic decision.

The following are the negatives of Deccan Chargers-
-Inability to captalise on good starts and ability to captalise on bad starts
-Incosistent middle order
-few wickets fell and that game will go against Chargers
-Inconsistent bowling attack and lack of third bowler proved costly.
-Poor fielding at crucial stages
I guess this are one of the factors which is proving costly for chargers

DECCAN CHARGERS SEEM TO MISS THE TRICK EVERYTIME THEY COME OUT TO CHASE,THE BASTMEN NEED TO PLAY ACCORDING TO THE RUN RATE REQUIRED,WHEN WE ARE WAY ABOVE THE RUN RATE WE TEND TO LOSE 3 WICKETS IN LESS THAN 3 OVERS,EVERYTIME THE CAPTAIN ITSELF SETS A BAD EXAMPLE AT THE START AND INAUGRATES LOSING OF WICKETS,WHICH IS NOT THE WAY TO GO

Coach,Captain & Team Owners,

I believe we have reached a point where in it should be left to the team how they perform in the Semis, its all theirs on individual performance or coming together and performing.

The franchisee owner should now look ahead for the next season for some good local talent which has come out with NOC's frm ICL(Rival of IPL) we had 7 absolute local talent in the likes of Ambatti rayudu, sheikh and others going there. They are real talent and I am sure they will come off for small bucks. Don't let them go...they are very good bet compared to Raviteja's,Venu's & Co.

Hope the business acumen is still intact with the team owners.

Happy with the performance this edition compared to last couldn't ask for more. I am setting my sights on next year.

All the best for the Semis..Go Chargers

khanhunk81

Chargers were get going during initial part of this tournament and since then they continously failing due to one or the other reason.Yesterday two blunders made 1) RP Singh dropping Manish and secondly in the last over Ojha didnt made any commitment for catching, instead he was wondering god will come and do the job for him. Common guys stop making silly mistake at this point of the tournament and give your 100% otherwise Delhi will thrash DC easily.

shakkirvm

if Gilly can stay till last over then we can give sweet revange for our two lose against them early
so Gilly plzzzz hang on there till last over

vinod gopani

Poor Performance and Very Poor Article , Two big mistakes in one article i donno how they even post that here ?? First it was manish pandey who was dropped by RP not van der Merwe and second it was virat and manish who scored 23 of last over not uttapa and manish. Anyways the prob chargers faced all along the tourament is there dept bowling..... They have to improve that and have to do it NOW to win tonight !! All the best CHARGERS !! Doesnt matter u win or lose WE R ALWAYS HERE FOR U !!

satish_mcse

Drop Jaskaran Singh,Harris
Take Styris,Vaas and Smith

phaniraj

My suggestion is not to drop Harris. He's lot better bowler than Vass. Sehwag has played Vass many times and he may go for plenty of runs. Sehwag will smack him like anything. RP lacks consistency. He bowls beautifully in one over and ruins in another. The only delivery which was high in standards by him was the ball he bowled to get rid of Sachin in the DC vs MI (2nd match). Harris is getting the bounce and very consistent in his line.

Try to vary pace in death overs rather than trying to get yorkers. Yorkers may go for sixers if they are not put at right spots. Please play Laxman. Smith can be given a chance but I donno in whose spot.

Nyway play ur hearts out in semifinals and u'll definitely win. ALL THE BEST

b

Gilly should allow Rohit to bowl, why he is not using him, He can change the game well.
Rohit & Symonds should stand atlest for 5 - 6 overs & increase the Score, Venugopal Rao doing his regular job playing silly shot, Bilakhia can came Earlier to bat. Do Some changes Make the Batting order Well & do the Bowling well too, All the Best GO Chargers GO GO GOoooooooooo.............

phaneeswar

Your absoulutely right and Rohit is bowling well and Gilchrist didnt threw the ball to him

b

It was A Bad Performance again by the Chargers, What is RPSingh doing he Missed the Catch Earlier & At Last given 25 Runs in last over, Again the Batting order Started to go back to the Pavilion one after the other, Prepare Well today We are going to Face the Strongest Team in this IPL. Hope Chargers Will not do the same miskate in Todays Match, All the Best To Play Well & Win this Game.

ppkuniv9

Hi chargers , whether u deleberately did not play to your mark or whatever , RP singh's last over disappointed . Delhi is not as strong as Chennai . Also its not consistent .
Ryan Harris is doing a good job.Today I think if sehwag is there in power plays , symonds bowling is not advisable.only if dd doesnot get off to a good start then its fine.mind it if sehwag is there giving the ball to venu or suman may backfire .

charge to change

DC's loss over DD in last match is close shave.
But I am sure they will pull back now !!!
C'mon boys u can make it & U will only make it!

Ravikanth

Poor article...Manish Pandey was dropped not Van...
RP Singh dropped it. Pathetic fielding. Because of his poor bowling also, Dhoni may not give him a place in the final eleven in the Indian 20-20 side for World cup.(He took wickets, but at high economy rate)

Ravikanth

The writer of this article got it all wrong. It was Virat Kohli who hit sixes the of last over but not Utahappa as stated above. Greater care should be taken in writing articles........

charger_ricky

DC is still in learning phase, every match they do one mistake which cost us loosing a easy win match.DC manages well but just give away match in just one or 2 overs..like yesterday the catch drop by RP, 23 runs is just one over.DC very know who fits in the team to play but never consider it.Dwayne should be in place Ryan (compulsary) as even foreign bowlers are not making much difference .Venu should be kicked out and laxman to be in.This will make the tremendous batting line up.If DC still goes the same way then GOD save DC.All the BEST.

shruti1992

=) Smith should replace Symmo!

shruti1992

Bottom line is : Deccan Chargers are terrible at chasing and should win the toss and bat first!

shruti1992

Sigh.

RP Singh dropped Pandey, not Merwe. That cost us dearly =( Need to be sharper in the field. Harmeet Singh should play. We always win when he's around! =P

Symonds should stop taking unnecessary risks. Gilly should NOT get out so stupidly! Gibbs was awesome, and hopefully will continue =) Laxman should be given a go.

Biggest Chargers Fan

IAM REPLYING TO YOUR COMMENT,WHY HARMEET SINGH SHOULD PLAY,SO THAT HE BOWLS 4 MORE FULL TOSS IN EACH OVER,PLEASE HE IS THE MOST AWFUL BOWLER I HAVE SEEN IN MY LIFE

Ravikanth

Deccan in semis! Great! But against Delhi Daredevils.
We need our best team against Delhi. The following eleven can play: Gilly,Suman,Rohit,VVS,Symmo, Styris, Venu,Vaas,RP,Ojha,Harmeet.

Gibbs has been very inconsistent and he needs to make way for allrounder Scotty Styris.Gilly has to take chance with Harmeet and VVS must come 2nd down to play against the likes of Vettori and Amit Mishra.Go for it Charrgers.

hyderabadlad

Today’s match will test the Chargers ability to handle to pressure & how they will attack a stronger opposition but I feel Delhi has edge over Chargers wait and see for result
Pitch seems to be batsmen friendly choose Batting first if won the toss.

My XI for DD
Gilly
Gibbs
Suman
Symmo
Rohit
Venu
Azhar
Ryan\ Vaas
RP
ojha
PD Vijay

1. Tight the things during 7- 15 overs I think we are losing momentum between those overs in both innings
2. Forget about plaer’s reputation & play aggressive cricket else it would be difficult to beat Delhi
3. Each player should think about his strengths and how he can apply those to today’s match
4. Show Discipline in Batting and Bowling.

I hope that each player will give his best in the middle. Result will depend on your performance and discount luck for semis, final

Ravikanth

It was a poor performance. VVS Laxman is a better batsman than Venu, Azhar and even Suman. Why is he not playing? Is he injured? We had a fantastic start today. We could easily have won it from there. But the middle order collapsed. Symmo, Rohit, Venu and Suman failed collectively. Even Gilly failed.FOrget the defeat, include VVS LAxman in the squad and go for it in the semifinals. VAAs must be included in place of Harris.HIgh CHARGE is essential

ganymide

DC played today is purposely for not giving strengths & weakness points to Delhi? If we look at Gilly, Symmo, wasted balls and out's looks like they want to loose against bangalore to play with Delhi instead of Chennai? Because Delhi has all fast & medium pace bowlers, but Chennai has good spin dept. So playing against Delhi is more easier for Gilly, Gibbs, Symmonds, and also for middle order. So thats the reason, they changed during 10th over? So tomorrow match only will tell their tactics are given any result. But this is not a good cricket, whoever, they've to play, and momentum bring wins, instead of choosing opponents.

ganymide

Gilly again failed. I don't know what happend, gilly's captaincy going down match to match. Initial first few matches, he used to go to bowler and keep telling where to bowl and fielding setup, now no where. RP.Singh is performing very badly with his bowling and fielding. I think he's the costliest, i don't know how he got purple cap. He has justify to purple cap. Gilly's batting is failing in spinners overs, kumble is clever, he started bowling when Gilly is started. Symmonds also poor at spin. Gilly should take Dwayne smith inplace of Ryan harris, VVS in place of Jaskaran. Overall our batting is very bad just before Semi's. Everybody hopes, they'll come back strong tomorrow against Delhi. Adv. congrats to DC for winning against Delhi.

tiru007

Restrict Dilshan and AB
Strength our middle order

We will be into finals.

Fareeduddin

First of all Congratulations for making into semis. Secondly, for good results "drop VG Rao and replace VG rao with luxman' as we have seen in last three matches he was unable to get in the line of a boll. Also drop harris with Vass.

In the end try to bowl yarker lenght ball where DC can save 30 runs.

penkeerthi

it was bad performance....there wer no patner ships .,...but full faith in DC...they have a gud track record on DD...SO dc to finals...GO DC GO :)

sumanthgutta

For the semifinal-
Drop Jaskaran Singh and take Laxman.
You have Symonds, Suman, Rohit and Venu to fill up the overs. They surely wont go more than 30 runs in 3 overs as Jaskaran or Shoiab or Harmeet have been consistently doing.

Pallu

Chargers
what are you doing ... 23 runs from last over again. what does the bowling coach doing man.. come on its because of that over we went down..
119/3 and 148/6 ..
too negligence Please concentrate on death overs bowling ..
Delhi is strong and we should upset them tomorrow
Go chargers ..go

Chargers_Rock

First of all Congratulations for making into semis. It looks like we are repeating the same mistake again and again, last over from RP fetched 23 runs, COMON these one or two overs are costing us allot. Today's match should be a learning curve for tomorrow's match. If we win the toss then smart thing would be to bat first and then put pressure on Delhi. Other wise, if Delhi bats first then there's no way we can control Dare Devils, they will atack our bowling left, right and center. Anyway, goodluck for tomorrow and please don't disappoint us.

coolazn

The author of this article got it all wrong. RP singh dropped Manish man not van der Merwe. Have you even watched the match? He dropped when he was on 2 and after that he made 114*. Our team is so known of giving the games away, just one guy throws away the game every time. Its all over for Chargers, they are going to get thrashed tomorrow by daredevils.

l D l E l C l C...

Catchez win mathchezz... neva forget this matra... a simple catch wrongly jugded cost a game.. still mistakes helps us learnin...com'n guyzz...keep catchin...oops keep rockin!!!
