Gilchrist focussed on job ahead
The happenings off the field may have cast a shadow over the IPL itself but Adam Gilchrist and his all-conquering bunch are firmly focussed on the job ahead. Gilchrist noted the mood in his camp was positive and vibrant. He however, termed Chennai Super Kings as a dangerous outfit, adding: “The two wins we had against them does not count much in a new game, it will all depend on what we do tomorrow.”
Forced to divulge his opinion on the ongoing drama in the IPL administration, Gilchrist said: “T20 has changed the landscape of cricket. Obviously there is a lot of revenue being raised or turned over and passed, there is a microscope on that in the IPL, and it will be interesting to see the outcome.
“Whether the money is good or detrimental, is hard to say, it’s a crystal ball gaze at the moment, I think there is a lot of positives about the IPL and T20 in the long run, as long as it well administered.”
He noted that the Deccan Chargers were a bunch of committed individuals who took great pride in their performance and money was the last thing on their mind. “To be honest, everyone in every walk of life needs something to survive. It’s real and a lure. I cannot speak for every team but I don’t see any financial reason to win. The desire is purely from within, the memories of last year from where we came from are the reasons I’m playing. There is no bigger incentive than winning.”
There is nothing much to separate the four semi-finalists and Gilchrist was ready to agree. “All of us have a chance of winning; it’s as simple as that. The conditions here are new, we have to watch the game tonight and get a bit of how the wicket is going to play,” said Gilly.
