Afridi - Likes/tries to hit the ball high n out..So simple...why not send him in POWER PLAY(first 6 overs).
One suggestion - (plzz plzz plzz afridi play one over defence to just feel the ball on the bat for us..plzz.. U can do it..big l8r.
Gilly - Wants to contribute a lot to team... Should stay at crease a lil long.. not try to hit Every ball.. he plays 20 balls...were in...
V.V.S n ROHIT - Ability to play WITHIN GAPS n HIT at GAPS.. Simple..Why not play MIDDLE OVERS GUYS... when the field is spread and still u guys can HIT...
s.BANGAR - He's got big hitting ability...He was OUT for a catch every match bcuz of widespread feild ..He can be tried as EXPERIMENTAL opener.(CANT TAKE RISK??? ..its also a v.v.lil RISK!!)

This is my first post here. I live in Bangalore but am a keen supporter of the Chargers. Strange world uh. Primarily because I always drool over Laxman's batting and I love the team selection of the Chargers.
People feel that Laxman has done reasonably well as opener but (much as I admire Laxman) it is "reasonably well" as per Laxman's standards, not T20s. The innings must start with a couple of adventurers. If they click (like McCullum did), then the batting order really doesn't matter. If they don't, then we can slip back into retaining wickets till the 15th (reaching around 100 by then) and trying for 60-70 runs in the last 5.
While it is always tempting to put Afridi up there and sit back and watch the mayhem, this move may result in not having enough firepower in the end.
My stance - Open with Gilchrist & Gibbs and tell them to go berserk and not worry if they get out. Even if each of them clicks in one match out of three, it is worth it. Send in Rohit Sharma at 3. He is the one bastman capable of farming out strike, or seeing off a good spell by someone or continuing the momentum if things are going well. Laxman & Styris (or one of the youngsters if Styris is not playing) come in at 4 & 5 if the wickets fall before the 12th over. Else, the moment any wicket falls after the 12th over, bring in Afridi.

if we(deccan chargers) are batting first,then i think so opening pair should be gilly&laxman followed by sharma,gibs,styris,bangar and then only afridi.sending afridi for opening would not be a good idea because of two reasons. firstly, since gilly is there to open&secondly from so far experience it is clear that afridi is not ready to change his batting attitude.Dhoni is clever &he can use any bowler effectively against afridi.so in case we are chasing csk total sending afridi at a position of 6 or 7 could be usefull as sometimes his bighits could be a releif.csk also have strong bowling line up,we could expect gilly vs ntini,afridi vs joginder

Yes, Afridi can make a big change when he is in power play. Why don't we try him in that way. He may be effective when the field is spread, but he may be fatal in the first 6 overs. Plz use him to the most possible extent. I think he his the best of the weapons of all the teams have in IPL.
