Skipper Laxman confident ahead of crucial match
It is sometimes hard to explain defeat. The shorter the format the bigger the problem to identify areas that needs to be worked on. All it takes to undo a good show is a solitary over. Deccan Chargers have not had it easy in the IPL till now, losing five of the six matches but skipper V.V.S.
Laxman continues to remain confident about his team. “It would have been different had we won a few close matches. It is important to stay positive and play to our potential. We have a well balanced side and it is a question of playing to potential,” said Laxman.
In spite of the poor results, Laxman maintained the team has been bonding well and the spirits are up.
“The foreign players, from whom the local youngsters can learn a lot, have gelled well with the team and it is a terrific atmosphere. All it will take is a few wins to turn things around.” The game against Chennai will be vital as another defeat here would all but close the door on any semifinal aspiration. There has been no lack of effort from the Chargers according top Laxman.
“It is just that some of the things have not come off. It has not been easy going but we are all geared up for this game,” said Laxman.
On Afridi being played in the middle order and not as an opener, Laxman said the pair of Gilchrist and him is working well at the moment and a player like Afridi is dangerous at any position and one good outing will bring him back to form.
Laxman added a decision on the playing XI would be taken on Tuesday after another look at the wicket.
The captain confirmed Chaminda Vaas has gone home for a while and will not be available for selection for this match.

Laxman I do understand that
Laxman I do understand that your play and Gilly as openers worked out but why dont you use Afridi as an opener batsman when power play is on for the first 6 over ... If he clicks, then its devastating day for the oppenent IPL team ... If you play 2nd down, then you will be the best person to work around the ball when the field is wide speard
the deccan chargers have
the deccan chargers have lost 3-4 really close games.
if the field setting in the last 2-3 overs is improved then the flow of runs may be stemmed it would lower the oppositions totaly about at least 10-15 runs.
seeing that weve lost matches in the last over of the innings... it may well be the deciding factor in the outcome of the match.
all the best for the coming games.
A deccan charger fan through and through!!.. good luck!
