Deccan Chargers on Tuesday announced that their captain VVS Laxman, who suffered an injury to his right hand during their match against Bangalore Royal Challengers, has been ruled out for the rest of the DLF IPL season, based on an MRI scan.
The team management announced that Adam Gilchrist will now take over as the captain of the side.

The team management also announced that young and dynamic Rohit Sharma would be the new vice-captain till the end of this season. Mr J. Krishnan, Chief Executive Officer, also added "Adam’s contribution in all aspects of building the team has been invaluable right through the season."

"His positive attitude, limitless energy and astute leadership skills would make a significant impact on the team. Rohit has been displaying tremendous responsibility and maturity in the way he has been adapting to different situations. Rohit is being groomed for the future and he would greatly benefit by being an understudy to Adam."

Laxman had told mediapersons on Monday on the sidelines of a function in the city that he could not grip the bat due to the injury and had been advised a two-week rest by his physician.

The Chargers have five matches left to play in the IPL, having lost seven of their nine games. Both their victories, against Mumbai Indians and Chennai Super Kings, have come in away matches. Gilchrist had scored the fastest century of the IPL against Mumbai to fashion the Chargers’ first victory.

Better give chance to

Better give chance to chamara silva instead of gibbs and push afridi open with gilly..so we can expect something from afridi in top order like yesterday done by sanath jayasuriya...

C'mon Chargers! We still

C'mon Chargers! We still have faith in ya! You rock!! Just try to give your best for the rest of the tournament!!

Think of this as a new

Think of this as a new series with only 5 games, try to win them all. I dont really care if you guys end up losing all the matches in this series & the next 2(basing on the 3 years contract).

Go Chargers!

PS: Are there male "cheerleaders"? I see them at the other stadiums & get laugh/chuckle when I see them. They look like fruit cakes out there especially the mumbai guys. DC owners, please only use girls!!!!

Also how about getting the chicago bulls mascot to make an apperance next season? Would go well with the bull icon for DC.

yeah, datz true. U still

yeah, datz true. U still have a plenty of time. It is a 3yr contract, so u guyz will definitely rock in next IPL season. Hope, u'll find ur mistakes from this season and learn from them.

Laxman has been provided

Laxman has been provided with a team which lacks confidence and talent. He was also unlucky to get injured for very important matches and now finally we are out of the Semis. So its not all laxmans fault, but its the selection of the below mentioned guys.
.
.
Worst Performances by:-
International Players:
Shahid Afridi (International Player, he is a liability for Pakistan team and now for DC)
Hershel Gibbs (International Player, never clicked in about 4 matches)

Domestic Players:
Venu Gopal (Played for India, clicked only Once in 9 matches)
Sanjay Bangar (Had once played for India, so called allrounder, but an allround waste in both bowling and batting)
Kalyan Krishna (Domestic fast bowler, lacks sense to bowl in crunch situations)
Arjun Yadav (Domestic hopeless batsman)
Ravi Teja (Is a U-19 Batsman, did not capatilise the 2-3 oppturnities given to him)

Never Used players:
Sarveesh Kumar (Never tested him, may be coz we have enough of Fast bowlers)
Haldar Das (will never be used since Gilly is there)
Chamra Silva (International Player, Never used, suprising but true he is a batsman still he is not in the squad)
.
.
If these many players are not helping the cause for DC how can a few players like "VVS, Gilly, Rohit, RP" can turnaround any match. Where Scott, Vaas, Zosya, Ojha, Vijay are comming with a below average performance.

This time we shud try to anyhow win the remaining matches, but from the next IPL just remove the clutter. Reduce the foreign recruits or atleast replace 3-4 players and remove 3-4 guys from our local players. And get in fresh talented 3-4 QUALITY PLAYERS from Domestic teams and Indian Team players or who once played for the Indian team. Only then we will be a force to reckon with and can bang the top teams black n blue.

~~~~~~ All the best for 2009 IPL Guys ~~~~~~~~
